Rehabilitation of concrete roads in Bonteheuwel

The City's Urban Mobility Directorate will rehabilitate and resurface various roads in Bonteheuwel. Although the planning and setup of the work site have commenced today, the physical work on the roads itself will only be visible by mid-January 2023.
Road users will not be impacted as yet as the contractor is busy with preparations for the project. However, after the festive season, the work will commence in all earnest and road users are advised to plan accordingly, and avoid the relevant roads as far as possible as traffic flow will be impacted.
The work is planned to take place in phases on weekdays only, from 07:30 to 17:00 to limit the inconvenience. Traffic on the affected streets will be accommodated by means of a short-term stop-and-go system to allow for lane construction and one-way traffic on the remaining lane.

In addition, several new curbs and sidewalks will be constructed in Bonteheuwel. Traffic calming measures including speed humps and raised intersections will also form part of the road upgrades.
'We ask that the community please cooperate with our team on the ground while the project is ongoing. We would like to rehabilitate and resurface these portions of the road to provide residents in the area with a safe and smooth road surface. We have measures in place to help direct residents during the construction period and we urge all road users to please comply,' said the City's Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.
The City's Road Infrastructure Management Department will be milling out the existing road surfacing and replacing it with a new asphalt road surface. The existing concrete roads will undergo cracking and sealing, and upgraded to asphalt. Road markings will be repainted once the road surface has been installed. This work forms part of regular maintenance to prolong the longevity of the city's road network.
